Anisotropy in Magnetism

چکیده
The enormous research on magnetic properties of ultrathin films and nanostructures produces also new activities in the fundamental understanding of the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) and the anisotropy of the orbital magnetic moment/atom. The pseudomorphic growth of Fe, Co, Ni on metallic and non-metallic substrates can change the nearest neighbor distance by ≈ 0.05 Å. This small change in structure and symmetry increases the MAE by several orders of magnitude and lifts the quenching of the orbital moment. Increases of 20 − 30% of the orbital moment μL are observed. This experimental finding is confirmed by full relativistic ab initio calculations. Various experiments deliver the full temperature dependence of all MAE contributions. The temperature dependence remains a challenge for the theory in itinerant magnetism.

Tunable dipolar magnetism in high-spin molecular clusters.
We report on the Fe17 high-spin molecular cluster and show that this system is an exemplification of nanostructured dipolar magnetism. Each Fe17 molecule, with spin S=35/2 and axial anisotropy as small as D approximately -0.02 K, is the magnetic unit that can be chemically arranged in different packing crystals while preserving both the spin ground state and anisotropy. For every configuration,...

Based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) with non-collinear-magnetism formulations, we have calculated the magnetism of single atom of 3d transition metals and the magnetic anisotropy of supported Ni chains on Au(110)-(1×2) surface. Our results show that surface relaxations enhance the orbital moments of left-end elements (Ti,V) and quench the orbital moments of right-end elements (Fe,Co,Ni) on...

The applicability of Nkel's pair model to metallic 3d surfaces and interfaces is explained in terms of the tight-binding momentstheorem. The Nee1 model reproduces itinerant magnetism so long as the band structure is approximated by third-moment atomic-pair contributions. This establishes an atomic NCel description of interfaces and impurities. The NCel parameter g depends on the d-band filling ...
متن کاملCovalent magnetism, exchange interactions and anisotropy of the high temperature layered antiferromagnet MnB₂.
The investigation of the electronic structure and magnetism for the compound MnB(2) with crystal structure type AlB(2) has been revisited to resolve contradictions between various experimental and theoretical results present in the literature. We find that MnB(2) exhibits an interesting example of a Kübler's covalent magnetism (Williams et al 1981 J. Appl. Phys. 52 2069). The covalent magnetism...
